Club Secretary Linda Tweats provides her regular update to club members. Take a look at what has happened in the last few weeks at the Club.
Dear Members/Supporters of Leek Cricket Club,
We began this year quietly. Not being able to celebrate New Year with friends and family and not quite knowing what the New Year had in store for us.
The sudden death of Brian Tatton, so early in the year, came as a shock to many. Brian another stalwart of Leek Cricket Club, died at home after an illness. Our sincere condolences go to Christine, Warwick and Kim.
Regretfully we also lost two more members of the Cricket Club before Christmas. Nicki Baraczweski and Gordon Conway. Nicki was a former player and Gordon and his wife, who died last July, have been members for a number of years.
Brian Tatton Funeral Details
The Funeral of Brian Tatton will take place on Monday 8th February, at 1:15PM. Friends and Members of the Club may gather opposite the church.
Management Team Update
The Management team are still “Zooming” on a regular basis. We're making sure we remain ready for when the green light is given from the Government and the ECB with regards to outdoor team sports.
The NSSCPCL Executive have issued a set of fixtures and cup draws and like all of us are wondering what the season will look like in 2021. They have asked us to be as flexible as possible whilst we wait for the Government to give us decisions on relaxation of lockdown and ultimately for ECB to give us their plans for cricket 2021.
We have to accept that this season will not be like 2019 or 2020 but however and whatever the season looks like, we will adjust accordingly and try to make a visit to Leek Cricket Club a good experience for you and for our visitors.

The Senior Teams have recently had a virtual quiz and continue to keep in touch with each other.
Alex Mellor, Mat Nicholls and Dave Alcock are all anxious to start net practice as soon as they are given the go ahead.
We are pleased to announce the signing of Khalid Sawas who joins us from Macclesfield and I am sure you will welcome him to Leek Cricket Club.
For full information about Khalid's signing, read our blog here.
The Juniors are also in the same position as the seniors. No training, no physically getting together. The junior managers are due to have a virtual meeting shortly to determine the coaches for this season.
Like the Senior Teams they have to be ready for and when they get the go ahead.
The Social Committee met in January and have some exciting proposals for this year.
One of which is potentially an Outdoor Cinema Event. We posted this on our Social Media channels this weekend to find out what the response would be, and it's been pretty optimistic so far! Watch this space as we look to firm up plans on this.
We can also tentatively announce the date of our PAST vs PRESENT #LegendsGame at the Cricket Club. We plan to host an afternoon of cricket, with a match featuring our current 1st and 2nd XI players, playing against a team made up of past players of the club.
There has been a lot of excitement about this event on social media, so we were very keen to get a date in the diary. For Cricket fans around Staffordshire, don't worry - we've looked at the Cup & League fixtures and made sure this doesn't clash with any Talbot Cup or T20 Cup competitions. The date will hopefully be 8th August 2021 - we may even have a special guest appearance from a former professional, keep your eyes peeled!
We have a lot more ideas in the pipeline and everything is still subject to government guidance & restrictions, but we hope by then, we should be able to get together and enjoy these fantastic events.
If anyone would like to join our Social Committee, or propose a new event then please get in touch.
Umpires & Scorers Courses
Staffordshire ACO have recently announced some details on upcoming Umpires & Scorers Courses. These can be great for any one that is looking to learn a little bit more about the Cricket Laws, or a parent that wants to help out this season.
Details on all courses can be found in our blog here.
I am informed the square has been verti-drained and some machinery has been serviced.
Also soil samples were taken and analysed and as a result of which the ground staff have made some adjustments to the winter and summer fertilisation programme.
The ground staff remain diligent in their approach to grounds maintenance.
The Management Committee have made a decision to put the Annual General Meeting back to Monday March 29th.
It looks like being a virtual meeting but hopefully by this time we will have had some directives from the Government and from ECB. I will be in a better position to give you more details on the technicalities of contact for the AGM in the next newsletter. Full details on the AGM & how to send through any proposed motions can be found in our blog here.
I have recently had a lengthy conversation with Sylvia Dale, by phone, in Tree Tops. She is well, has had the vaccine and wishes to send you all her love and hopes to see many of you up at Highfield in the summer.
Keep an eye out on all of our Social Media pages to find out the last news first.
Until next time, stay safe.
