Leek CC 'Past vs Present' Game Info

We give you all the information you need ahead of the much anticipated Legends 'Past vs Present' Game on Sunday 8th August 2021.

On Sunday 8th August, Leek Cricket Club will host a 'Legends' events that will consist of 2 x T20 games of past Leek Cricket Club players vs present players from the 1st XI, 2nd XI and Development XI.

We've got lots going on across the day, so let us take you through all the info you need to know.

Morning

We invite you to watch the next generation of Leek Cricket Club players. Our Under 13s team will be playing Oakamoor from 9:30AM.

Our Under 13s currently sit top of the table with only 2 games to go, so come and give them all the extra support they need as they push for the title!

Main Event

This event has been in the making since April 2020, when we posted the idea on Facebook to see what response it would get - and boy we were not disappointed!

After such a great response, we decided to go ahead and put on TWO T20 Games on this Sunday, starting at 1PM.

Format: 20 overs a side, 1hr 10 mins per innings with 10 mins innings break

Times: 1PM & 4PM

Here's a list of the players confirmed to play in the 'PAST XI' sides on Sunday, more still TBC:

  • Rory Bailey

  • John Barks

  • Matt Bayley

  • Jamie Cullerton

  • Colin Dearden

  • Dave Fern

  • Dave Ferris

  • Rob Haydon

  • Steve Jodrell

  • Mark Jones

  • Rob King

  • Ally Leek

  • Brian Mellor

  • Rich Ogden

  • Dave Ratcliffe

  • Mitch Spencer

  • Jon Tweats

The PAST XI will also include former Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire & England cricketer Ryan Sidebottom. Pictured below on previous Leek appearance vs Leycett, 2009.

This week Club Captain Alex Mellor will sit down with Chairman Brian Mellor to arrange the two Past XIs and select two competitive sides of Leek current players as opponents.

The past XI players will wear either Navy or Yellow Training Shirts kindly supplied by Pete Wilshaw & JS Sports, with the current XIs wearing whites or the Leek CC coloured kit.

Of course, plenty of Legends of Leek Cricket Club have been invited to attend the game in addition to those that are playing.

The fantastic Malcolm Egde & John Reed have kindly agreed to umpire both games.

During The Day

Apart from the cricket, we'll have plenty of things going on around the ground.

We're incredibly excited to have Project Doughnut back at the club, who have kindly agreed to sponsor the match ball. Take a look below at some of their incredible sweet treats.

They'll be located near to the clubhouse from 1PM til 6PM. Boxes priced at £11 for 1, £20 for 2 and £27 for 3 - we sold out last time, so grab them early!

Also, we will have a BBQ going during the day with Burgers & Hot Dogs available - let's hope we have the weather for it! There will also be a buffet tea for players involved in the game.

There will also be a raffle on the day with plenty of prizes. If you're a local business that would like to supply a prize, then please get in touch with us by emailing leekcricketclub@yahoo.co.uk before the weekend.

And sadly, since we have been discussing the Past vs Present game, several club members have passed away. We will be taking the time to remember those we have lost during the break in play at approximately 3:30PM.

We love putting on events at Leek Cricket Club, but we couldn't do it without the continued support of our sponsors.

This includes Ornua Foods (Kerrygold, Pilgrims Choice), who have kindly agreed to be the match sponsors. One of the teams will feature a member of staff from Ornua, let's see how they do!

That's all the info you need, now it's time to look forward to a fantastic day of cricket. We look forward to seeing you at the club. Let your friends & family know and help us make this a spectacular day to remember!
